The activities of the 11th session of the International Forum for Government Communication, organized by the International Government Communication Center of the Sharjah Government Media Office, will discuss, on the 28th and 29th of this month, the role of language in finding common ground for communication between peoples, and the definition of their cultural and civilizational identity, whether it comes in the form of a storytelling. Written, or through a dramatic production that delivers indirect messages, with an impact that exceeds the direct information the audience receives through news bulletins and traditional media.

A number of media professionals and art stars will meet in a dialogue session entitled “Drama between Intellectual and Linguistic Construction”, which will host the Director General of the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, Muhammad Hassan Khalaf, the Syndicate of Acting Professions in Egypt, Dr. Ashraf Zaki, the artist Asmahan Tawfiq, and the Egyptian director Peter Mimi.

The session, which will be held on the first day of the forum, and moderated by writer and media figure Lana Al-Jundi, evokes the reality of Arab drama and its aspirations, the obstacles and opportunities it faces, the reasons for its absence from the world arena and the international cultural movement, in which every culture has reserved a present and influential place for itself.

The session sheds light on the commonalities between dramatic production in one country, and the role of the dramatic language that is translated on the small screen in defining the cultural and emotional identity, and its importance in highlighting civilizational achievements. It is capable of consolidating the cultural and historical commonality in building bridges of communication between nations, and reviews examples of global successes in this regard.

As part of Sharjah’s endeavor to enhance the status of the Arabic language through innovative initiatives that establish its presence as a tool for communication with the other and a mirror of Arab culture and civilization, the forum’s activities will host a session entitled “Language is not an option”, in which Muzna Najib, winner of the 2019 Arab Reading Challenge, will participate and be interviewed by the media. Muhammad Abu Obaid.

The axes of the session revolve around the reality of the Arabic language and its position among the languages of the world, and its ability to survive, develop and absorb the changes of the times, through its own characteristics and ancient heritage, and its impact on communication between the peoples of the world throughout the golden ages when Arabic became the language of science and literature.

Inspired by her experience in which she spent wonderful moments with the aesthetics of Arabic through her readings, which were crowned by the champion of the Arab Reading Challenge, Muzna talks about the importance of balancing generations between openness to the world by learning its languages and effective communication with it, and mastering Arabic as the identity of the Arab nation and its stock of culture and history, where the session raises questions Language and the impact of industrial superiority on the supremacy of one language at the expense of another.
