Two years after the coronavirus brought the world to a standstill, Oktoberfest is being held again from September 17 to October 3 in the city of Munich.

The parenthesis of 2020 and 2021 has served for Germans, and foreigners, to catch the biggest beer festival in the world with more desire.

These are 10 facts that prove that Oktoberfest is not just any party: it is THE beer festival.

1. Visitors.

More than 20% of the people who come to Oktoberfest are

foreigners

.

The most numerous are Italians (3.9%), followed by Americans (3.7%) and Austrians (2.9%).

Most of the visitors are over 30 (57%).

The 6.3 million people who visit the Oktoberfest during the two weeks that it lasts approximately spend 448 million euros in total, an average of more than 70 euros per person.

2. Maß

.

This is the name of the

traditional mug

used in the Oktoberfest tents.

It has a capacity of approximately one liter and weighs 1.3 kilos when empty.

Approximately eight million liters are drunk.

In addition, more than 450,000 chickens and

60,000 sausages

and knuckles, the most traditional dishes, are consumed.

Stealing a jug can carry a fine of 360 euros.

3. Exclusivity.

Only

six factories

serve the beer inside the oktoberfest tents.

They are those that still make their drink within the city limits.

The brands are Paulaner, Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu and Spaten

4. More beer and more expensive.

The average price of a liter of beer this year ranges between 12.60 euros and 13.80,

15.7% more than in 2019

, the date of the last Oktoberfest held.

5. A mini city.

More than 400 toilets work at Oktoberfest to attend to any health problems that visitors may have.

In addition, the compound

has its own police station

, where more than 300 police officers work.

6. Variety.

On the Theresienwiese, the park where Oktoberfest is held,

39 tents

(17 large and 21 small) are set up.

7. Construction.

The largest ones, like the one in Paulaner, with capacity for almost 9,000 people, take an average of

14 weeks to set up

and 5 to dismantle.

They have foundations and resistance to winds of up to 110 km/h.

This same tent was the first to be connected to an underground circular pipe through which the beer is transported.

The beer serving system allows filling 15 mugs per minute.

8. Security.

Since 2003, the Oktoberfest has had a

"safe space"

for women where the campaign "A safe Wiesn for women and girls" is carried out.

This campaign informs visiting women in advance and helps them in unpleasant situations, for example if they are harassed

9. Fun.

The enclosure also has dozens of attractions, including a 50-meter

Ferris wheel

from which you can see the Bavarian side of the

Alps

and the world's largest mobile roller coaster.

10. Cancellations.

Only several wars, a

cholera

pandemic and an inflation crisis have managed to keep Oktoberfest from taking place.
