At the start of the Oktoberfest on Saturday, festival manager Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) together with Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) will present the new products on the festival grounds on Thursday.

Final preparations are underway there before Reiter taps the first keg of beer this Saturday and thus opens the largest folk festival in the world after two years of the Corona compulsory break.

There are no corona requirements

-

even if a wave of infections is already expected after the Wiesn.

Despite the pandemic, inflation, war and energy crisis: According to the landlords, the reservation situation is very good.

Before the pandemic, around six million visitors came to the Wiesn every year.

No folk festival weather

A drop of bitterness is the weather forecast: It's supposed to be cold and rainy on Saturday.

The temperature should drop to almost ten degrees

-

no folk festival weather.

The hosts want to do without radiant heaters outside this year because of the gas crisis.

The Bräurosl marquee is newly built and is run by a new landlord.

A family carousel with gondolas called "Circus-Circus" and a virtual reality system called "OktobVRfest" will be available for the first time in the showmen's area.

In the southern part of the site, the Oidn Wiesn is cozy with its historic fairground rides and brass band music.

The measure costs up to 13.80 euros

Around 600 police officers ensure security during the two weeks of the festival until October 3rd.

There are entry controls again.

As in previous years, there is a ban on larger bags and backpacks.

The measure costs between 12.60 euros and 13.80 euros.

Compared to the previous Wiesn 2019, the price has increased by an average of 15.77 percent.

Subway frequency almost doubled

From Saturday, the Munich transport company (MVG) will also switch to Wiesn mode.

Then more underground trains than usual will go to the Theresienwiese

and the escalators will be set up faster.

"We are condensing the cycle time on the U4/U5 lines so that during the Oktoberfest, depending on the time of day, a train runs between Theresienwiese and the city center every 2.5 to 3.3 minutes," explained an MVG spokesman.

This roughly doubles the clock rate.

If the platform is full anyway, a subway will sometimes drive through without stopping to the next station.

Escalators in Oktoberfest mode

The escalators

in Germany traveling at 0.5 meters per second according to a DIN standard

are set to 0.68 meters per second at the Wiesn peak time.

But nobody will lose their balance because of the speed

in many countries, escalators are moving at a higher speed even in normal operation.

In addition, there are other measures to be as well prepared as possible for the Oktoberfest rush, explained the MVG spokesman.

At the Theresienwiese underground station, an escalator fitter is on site during the day and in the evening in order to be able to quickly rectify minor disruptions.

In addition to 120 external workers, colleagues from the Berlin BVG, the SSB Stuttgart, the Hamburger Hochbahn, the Wiener Linien and a few other transport companies help out.

After two years of Corona break

In the afternoons and evenings there is also a medical service in the subway station to be able to take care of passengers with physical problems quickly.

The cleaning service will then also be on site at the Theresienwiese “just in case”.

Last but not least, enjoying the particularly strong beer during the Wiesn regularly leads to various types of dirt around the site.

For the first time after the two-year Corona break, millions of guests are expected at the Oktoberfest this year;

many of them are not allowed to drive a car themselves after visiting the festival site.

More trains are also running on the S-Bahn.

S-Bahn trains are dispatched every minute at the Hackerbrücke as a Wiesn stop.

During the Oktoberfest, Deutsche Bahn registered a good 100,000 more people a day than usual in the Munich S-Bahn.
