The shelves of supermarkets should soon be restocked with Mikado, Petit Ecolier, Granola, Pepito, Pim's and other chocolate biscuits made by the American multinational Mondelez International.
The Cestas plant, one of the group's largest French sites, is gradually resuming its activity, Mondelez announced on Tuesday in a press release.
A major factory clean-up
After a salmonella alert at the end of August from one of its suppliers, the group had decided as a precaution to stop the contaminated biscuit factory, to carry out a thorough cleaning of the installations, bolt by bolt.
There were no product recalls as the factory was put on alert before the contaminated chocolate was marketed.
After several weeks of shutdown, the production lines are gradually getting back into business.
“However, it will still take several weeks before returning to normal production capacities,” the group said in its press release.
This gradual restart of production should make it possible to resume the supply of products disrupted following the interruption of site activities in the coming weeks.
