In Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which was severely damaged by the record heavy rain in August, a vehicle-type post office that was converted from a truck has started operations.

In Nakaumi-cho, Komatsu City, record-breaking heavy rain on August 4 flooded the town's only post office, leaving it unable to resume operations.

In response to this, Japan Post dispatched a vehicle-type post office, which was converted from a truck, to the site and started operations from the 12th.

This post office has two permanent staff members and has an ATM as well as a counter.

Residents have been visiting and using it since the morning, and they can do almost the same work as a store, such as sending mail, depositing and withdrawing savings.

A man who used the service said, "I've been waiting for the resumption of business. I'm glad that I was able to send my son in Gifu the new rice that was hard-earned in the disaster-stricken area."

Shinichi Nakayama, the head of the Nakaumi Post Office, said, "I'm glad that we were able to resume operations because there were concerns that the post office might disappear as it is. We are working to restore the damaged post office. I want to resume full-scale business," he said.
