He had not played for the Moroccan national team since June 2021 and a 1-0 victory in a friendly match against Burkina Faso.

Sixteen months later, Hakim Ziyech will make his return with the Atlas Lions, during matches against Chile, on September 23 in Barcelona, and against Paraguay, on September 27 in Seville.

Two meetings serving as preparation for Moroccans, two months before the 2022 World Cup.

The 29-year-old midfielder was at odds with ex-coach Vahid Halilhodzic, pushed out by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) in August.

An FRMF which has since inducted Walid Regragui in its place.

This former defender therefore immediately recalled a Ziyech who had nevertheless announced his international retirement last February.

And who is far from irresistible with his club, in the English first division…

Regragui, who raked wide with 31 pre-selected players, has also retained midfielder Younès Belhanda and full-back Noussaïr Mazraoui.

They too had had a difficult relationship with Halilhodzic.

Finally, note the absences of Nayef Aguerd, Adam Masina, Tarik Tissoudali, for injuries.
