The policy is to accelerate

The Ministry of the Environment has announced a schedule for achieving the government's growth strategy, which aims to expand the market size of the circular economy such as recycling and reuse from the current 50 trillion yen to over 80 trillion yen by 2030.

Specifically, we plan to double the amount

of metals such as rare metals recycled from used products such as solar panels and electrical appliances, and the amount

of plastics such as PET bottles collected.

In addition,

we will promote the use of “food drives,” which deliver leftover food to households in need of assistance, and

the production of “SAF,” an alternative aircraft fuel made from discarded food. , aims to reduce the amount of food waste by more than 1 million tons from the current level, to less than 4 million tons per year.

The Ministry of the Environment estimates that there is room to reduce domestic greenhouse gas emissions by about 36% by promoting these efforts.

Minister of the Environment Nishimura said, "We would like to promote efforts to realize a decarbonized society, and we would like to convey to the world Japan's superior technology such as metal recovery as a strength."
