After the 6th wave of the new coronavirus from the beginning of this year, the National Center for Global Health and Medicine analyzed patient data nationwide and found that the percentage of people who died with moderate symptoms of the corona increased. .

While the percentage of patients who become seriously ill has decreased due to the progress of vaccination, it is said that there are many cases where people with chronic diseases die due to deterioration of their general condition due to corona infection.

The National Center for Global Health and Medicine analyzed the progress of 2,861 people who died out of more than 70,000 people who were hospitalized at medical institutions across the country by the end of last month.

As a result, 42% of the patients who died in the 5th wave last summer were severe, such as the pneumonia caused by the corona worsening and the need for a ventilator, compared to the 6th from the beginning of this year. It was reduced to 13% in waves.

Furthermore, in the 7th wave of this summer, few people died at the time of analysis, but 5% were seriously ill.

On the other hand, moderate pneumonia was 57% in the 5th wave, 83% in the 6th wave, and 89% in the 7th wave, and severe pneumonia due to the progress of vaccination. It is said that while the number of patients who become infected has decreased, the number of patients who die due to worsening chronic diseases triggered by corona infection is increasing.

Takao Omagari, director of the International Center for Infectious Diseases, who conducted the analysis, said, "Even in moderately ill people, especially elderly people with pre-existing illnesses, the function of their organs deteriorates, weakening and dying." There are opinions, but there are only cases in the field where people would not have died if they hadn't contracted the coronavirus. We need to continue to take measures to prevent infection as much as possible and to avoid aggravation through vaccination."
