An Egyptian young man slaughtered his neighbor with a knife inside a mosque in one of the villages of Dakahlia, while performing Friday prayers.
Before carrying out the crime, the accused wrote the phrase "Welcome to me" on the walls of his house, days before the victim was killed.
The people of Mit Al-Sudan village said that the accused is unstable and suffers from some mental illnesses, but he entered the mosque while the residents of the village were listening to the Friday sermon and took out a knife from the folds of his clothes and attacked the young Sherbini Al-Khawaja, who is known among the village members due to his good reputation.
According to "Al-Masry Al-Youm", the people were able to arrest the accused before handing him over to the Dikirnis Center investigations.
Investigations revealed that the killer, a 33-year-old young man, had a dispute with the victim, a 48-year-old tailor, because of the latter's reprimand for his writing on the walls of the village.
Witnesses pointed out that the accused raised the suspicion of some after he confirmed, before committing the crime, that the police would come to the village after the end of Friday prayers, without them knowing what he intended to do.
He resolved to get rid of the man during prayer, so he waited for him until he entered the mosque and then entered behind him.
According to witnesses, the victim was in the first row in prayer, while the accused was in the last rows, and took advantage of the worshipers' preoccupation with prayer, and moved until he was directly behind the victim, and during his rise from prostration he slaughtered him with a knife that was in his possession.
A state of panic prevailed among the worshipers inside the mosque, and the prayer stopped, while the blind imam of the mosque tried to return them to prayer because he did not know what was happening.
Worshipers succeeded in arresting the killer and handing him over to the police later. Eyewitnesses explained that the victim got up with the knife still in his neck and pronounced the testimony, while some tried to rescue him by taking him out of the mosque and taking him to the hospital, but he died on the way.
The body of the victim was taken to the hospital, and a report was issued regarding the incident.
A state of sadness prevailed in the village over the death of the victim, who was known for his kindness.
