102-year-old Indian "marries" to pressure the government!

An Indian man, dressed in a wedding suit, went to a government office with an old cart and a group of musicians performing on brass wind instruments, to prove to the Indian authorities who stopped paying him a pension that he is still alive despite reaching his 102nd year.

"I'm alive!" Dolly Chand shouted at the government office, local media reported yesterday.

"I haven't received a pension since March because government records show that I died," he said, adding, "Since then I've been trying in vain to prove that I'm still alive."

Social worker Naveen Jaihand, who was among the dozens of people who joined the fake wedding procession, said he learned about Chand's story and decided to help him.

"We called various government offices, we even held a press conference, but to no avail," he told AFP. "Then we thought about organizing a fake wedding procession as a way to get attention" about Chand's case.

He indicated that since that incident, he had received calls from several people facing a similar issue, after a video clip showing Chand's fake wedding procession went viral on social media.
