The jury chaired by Arnaud Desplechin rewarded three films dealing with adolescence.
Thandiwe Newton, Ana de Armas and Jesse Eisenberg are among the stars honored by the festival.
French cinema has also distinguished itself with strong films.
It's a success !
The Jury of the 48th edition of the Deauville Festival chaired by Arnaud Desplechin rewarded several of our favorites.
He awarded his Grand Prize to
Atfersun
by Charlotte Wells discovered at Cannes Critics' Week, also winner of the Critics' Prize.
The Jury Prize was awarded to
Palm Trees and Power Lines
by Jamie Dack while
War Pony
by Gina Gammell & Riley Keough, 2022 Golden Camera at Cannes also received the Jury Prize and the Revelation Prize, chaired by Elodie Stopper.
John Paton Ford's Emily the Cirminal
received the audience award.
As Andréa Bescond and Eddy de Pretto, members of the Revelation jury,
pointed out at
20 Minutes , adolescence is at the center of many selected and distinguished works.
This theme ruled the event as one of the difficult lives of America's outcasts.
When America loses its glitter
The moving
Aftersun
delicately evokes the vague memories of a young woman during a vacation with her father when she was a child.
War Pony
shows the life of children struggling against poverty on an Indian reservation and
Palm Trees and Power Lines
paints the portrait of a high school girl who has fallen under the control of an adult.
This trio of very successful works shows that America is moving away from the dream with which it has long been associated.
The same goes for the endearing
Emily the Criminal
who uncovers the misdeeds of a scam artist forging credit cards to pay off her huge student loan.
Last night, the Dream Factory also showed off its underwear in front of a crowded room with Andrew Dominic's
Blonde
, a Netflix production revealing the dark side of Marilyn Monroe's life.
Ana De Palmas received the 'New Hollywood' trophy for her star-inspired portrayal.
During the week, Jesse Eisenberg and Thandiwe Newton were also presented with career trophies in front of cheering fans.
France well represented
Deauville is also open to the great moments of the Cannes Film Festival and to French cinema.
We particularly remember the touching ghost story
Falcon Lake
, Charlotte Le Bon's first feature film, the horror film
La Tour
, directed by Guillaume Nicloux and
The Great Magic
, a bewitching tale by Noémie Lvovsky.
The Deauville Festival has reserved some great French and American surprises for this solidly structured 2022 edition which confirms the love of the event for all genres of cinema.
