The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said that over 120,000 vehicles with exhaust gas performance that did not meet the standards were sold due to the fraudulent data problem of Hino Motors for about 20 years. issued a corrective order to demand drastic reforms.

This is the first time that a correction order has been applied since the system was established three years ago.

Regarding the problem that Hino Motors had submitted fraudulent data such as exhaust gas to the government, a new fraud was revealed last month, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism was conducting an on-site inspection until the 8th.

As a result, new violations of ministerial ordinances were confirmed, such as false statements about exhaust gas and fuel efficiency in the application form, and failure to meet the specified fuel efficiency performance.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, who took the situation seriously, called Hino Motors President Satoshi Ogiso on the afternoon of the 9th, and Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Saito said, "I can't help but think that there is a serious problem with the organizational culture and constitution, and we have to drastically reform. If you do, you will not be able to regain the trust that has been lost," and issued a "corrective order."

This is the first time that a corrective order has been applied to a system that was created through a revision of the law three years ago in response to a series of inspection frauds by automakers.

Under the order, vehicles whose exhaust gas performance did not meet the standards were sold, and at least 120,000 units were sold. We are demanding that you report within one month on measures to prevent recurrence, such as strengthening the internal check system and drastic reform of the organizational culture, as it will damage the trust of the company.

President of Hino Motors "We will do our best to prevent recurrence"

In response to the correction order, Hino Motors President Satoshi Ogiso said, "We recognize once again the seriousness of the wrongdoing and the importance of facing those who have caused trouble. We will accept it and make every effort to prevent recurrence as a top priority issue."

Regarding Hino Motors' data fraud, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism canceled the certification for the production of cars with four models of engines in March this year. On the 9th, it announced a policy to revoke the certification of the four models of engines that were confirmed to not meet the standards.

We will hold a hearing on the 16th of this month to hear what the company has to say.

On the other hand, as a result of the on-site inspection, we will allow the resumption of shipments of seven engine models whose performance has been confirmed to meet the standards.
