Sharjah..Ambassador of Arab culture at the "Book Festival" in America

The Sharjah Book Authority participated in the most prominent literary event in the United States, the National Book Festival, organized by the Library of Congress in its 22nd session under the slogan "Books Unite Us", with the attendance and participation of 90 American creators.

In the event, which has been held annually for more than 20 years, the authority presented a living example of the current Emirati and Arab cultural movement, as it was one of the sponsoring institutions for the event, and through its participation program, it opened the door for American publishers and writers to participate in the Sharjah International Book Fair.

During its participation, the authority reviewed the opportunities owned by the Emirati and Arab publishing sector, as it presented a picture of the size of the cultural and creative movement, whether at the level of translation, authorship, or qualitative initiatives in promoting the culture of reading. It also revealed the fruits of its initiatives in supporting the book industry in the UAE and the region. Arabic.

On the sidelines of the festival, the head of the Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, visited the Library of Congress, and met with the head of the library, Dr. Carla Hayden, and the two sides discussed areas of cooperation and joint work.

Al-Amiri presented the library with copies in Arabic and English of the book of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, entitled “Sultans of a Kilo”, which were received by the head of the library.

Al Ameri said: "Sharjah bears, at the local and Arab levels, the responsibility of supporting the book and promoting its industry, and at the international and global levels, it is the link and the gateway through which Arab culture communicates with its counterpart in the world."

He added: “We look at culture not only as a space for creativity, contemplation and knowledge production, but as a path to embody the depth of our identity, and to form our relationship with ourselves and with the other, as it is a gateway to dialogue between our culture and the various cultures of the world. Communicating with Emirati and Arab culture, and this is what we reap the fruits of in a qualitative event such as the National Book Festival that brings together a group of senior American writers.”
