Harvesting of rare bite-sized persimmons "baby persimmon" grown in Gifu Prefecture has begun in Motosu City.

Baby persimmon is a bite-sized persimmon with a diameter of about 3 cm. According to JA, it was discovered as a mutation in Niigata Prefecture about 40 years ago, and is also cultivated in Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan's leading persimmon production areas. Now



The technique to remove the astringency is difficult, and only 17 farmers in Gifu Prefecture are cultivating them.



Harvested fruits are sorted at a nearby fruit sorting facility, checked for damage, and then packed according to size.



Mr. Kato said, "We have a sweet and delicious persimmon this year. Young people have fewer opportunities to eat it, so I want them to know the appeal of this bite-sized persimmon."



The shipment of baby persimmon from Mr. Kato's farm will continue until the beginning of October this year, and it is expected to ship about 1 ton. about it.
