The feature has long been requested by netizens.

The social network at the blue bird therefore gives in to popular pressure and will allow some of its users to modify typos or spelling errors, once the test phase is over.

No more spelling mistakes!

This is the promise launched this week by Twitter, which is testing for the first time a feature eagerly awaited by Internet users: the "edit" button below a tweet.

The social network had already made the announcement a few months ago but this Thursday the functionality, called "Edit Tweet" officially entered the test phase.

It will therefore not be available immediately, since it is currently being used internally with the teams.

However, this precious button will only be available for the paid version of Twitter, a version currently only available in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

A feature with conditions

"As with any new feature, we are voluntarily testing the 'Edit tweet' feature with a limited audience to help us identify and fix potential issues before making it available to everyone," Twitter said in a statement.

“Through testing, we hope to quickly understand how it is used and its impact on how people read and write tweets,” the group adds.

As currently designed, the new feature allows tweets to be edited multiple times within thirty minutes of posting, and edited tweets will be accompanied by symbols clearly indicating that the original post has been corrected.

It will be possible to access earlier versions of the message.

This should "protect the integrity of the conversation" and "allow everyone to see what was said," says Twitter.
