“Rainstorm-stormy episode requiring particular vigilance because of its intensity”, indicated Météo-France, specifying that monitoring had been set up for Bouches-du-Rhône (13), Gard (30) and Vaucluse (84).

These bad weather are expected between Friday 3 p.m. and Saturday midnight.

The regional monitoring bulletin reported at 6 a.m. "a few showers over Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône but the event has not yet started".

“Storms persist at the end of the night, from the southwest to the northwest of the country.

However, the thunderstorms expected in the three departments placed in orange vigilance have of course not yet developed at this time, ”noted the meteorologists.

According to them, thunderstorms will develop, especially marked a priori in the evening of Friday and the first part of the night, with intense precipitation.

“We expect up to 40 to 60 mm, or even 70 to 100 mm in a short time, occasionally a little more due to a risk of stationarity.

This therefore creates a risk of runoff and flooding in places, ”noted the bulletin, warning that hail, gusts under thunderstorms and intense electrical activity were also to be feared.

The thunderstorm risk will spread

The stormy disturbance will be present from the start of the morning over a wide swath of the west of the country, giving showers and thunderstorms from New Aquitaine and from western Occitanie to Hauts-de-France.

At the rear, the sky will be very heavy with some showers in Brittany, Lower Normandy and Pays de la Loire.

Over the hours, the risk of thunderstorms will spread towards the east of the country, with thunderstorms which will give places intense electrical activity and heavy rains.

It is in the Mediterranean regions, from Languedoc to the Rhône valley and west of PACA that the stormy degradation may be most marked during the afternoon and evening with storms that can locally give very strong accumulations rain.

On the other hand, the sky will clear up on the ocean front, with less intense and more sparse showers.
