The summer of 2022 broke many records in Languedoc and Roussillon.

In particular in Sète where the thermometer reached 74 times a temperature at least equal to 20°C during the night.

The 2003 record is tied.

This tropical climate settled in for 46 consecutive days from July 3 to August 17, which Météo-France had never seen before on the Singular Island.

It was even worse at Cap Béar, in the Pyrénées-Orientales: 76 tropical nights during the summer (including 58 consecutive nights)!

This very hot summer did not generally break maximum temperature records in Languedoc and Roussillon.

On the other hand, it had never been so hot, over such long periods: “the number of hot or very hot days was four to five times greater than normal”, underlines Météo-France.

For example 51 days at 35°C or more in the small town of Moules-et-Baucels, in Hérault.

40°C reached from mid-June

The temperature of 40°C had never been reached so early (from June 17 for example in Prades-le-Lez, in the metropolis of Montpellier).

Many municipalities have broken high records for minimum temperatures, particularly in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Average temperatures were between 2.7°C and 2.9°C higher than normal in the different departments.

As for the average maximum temperature, it flirted with 4°C above normal.
