In order to reduce "food loss," a confectionery store in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture sells unsold products with vending machines at about half the price under the name "translated cakes," which is gaining popularity.

A Western confectionery shop in Kaminogi, Matsue City has packed unsold products and cakes with irregular shapes in addition to regular products and named them 'translated cakes', and started selling them from refrigerated vending machines in mid-August. I was.

The price is around 500 yen, which is half the normal price, and the vending machine is structured so that the product cannot be seen, so one of the pleasures is that you can imagine what kind of cake is in the vending machine.

This store decided to introduce vending machines as part of reducing the so-called "food loss" where food is discarded and the working hours of employees.

It also means that there will be almost no cake to throw away, and it will also have the effect of partially compensating for the soaring prices of raw materials such as wheat, which have risen in price after Russia's military invasion of Ukraine.

Tatsuya Sagawa, manager of the Western confectionery store Claude's production department, said, "I would be very happy if my customers were happy even just a little."

The vending machines are open daily from 8:30am to 9:00pm.
