Insurance companies are considering revising the payment targets for hospitalization benefits that are paid when medical insurance subscribers are infected with the new corona.

Currently, in principle, everyone is being paid, including so-called "deemed hospitalization" where they are treated at home, but the policy is to limit it to those who are at high risk of becoming seriously ill, such as the elderly.

If a medical insurance subscriber is infected with the new coronavirus, insurance companies will pay hospitalization benefits if there is a medical treatment certificate issued by a public health center or medical institution, even in the case of so-called "deemed hospitalization" where medical treatment is done at home. I have complied.

Regarding this, life insurance companies and non-life insurance companies that handle medical insurance plan to review the payment targets in line with the government's review of the total number of new coronas.

Specifically,

▽Patients who need to be hospitalized will continue to be paid as before, but

▽In the case of those receiving treatment at home or in hotels, the payment will be limited to those at high risk of becoming seriously ill, such as the elderly and pregnant women. We are coordinating with the Financial Services Agency and others in the direction.

It is up to each company to decide, but it is expected that the target will be reviewed from the end of September at the earliest.

According to the Life Insurance Association of Japan, more than 90% of the total hospitalization benefits paid by life insurance companies by the end of June due to the corona crisis, 265 billion yen, were paid to patients who were "deemed hospitalized".
