In response to this, Nihon Hidankyo issued a statement on the 29th.

After stating that it was "extremely regrettable" that the final document was not adopted, he said, "Nuclear-weapon states refused to use nuclear weapons first and to refrain from threatening non-nuclear-weapon states with nuclear weapons during the conference." However, it has become clear how the threat of the use of nuclear weapons will have serious consequences."

In addition, he expressed his determination for the future, saying, "Japan Hidankyo will not be discouraged by the non-adoption of the final document, and appeal for the abolition of nuclear weapons and saving the crisis of humankind."

A-bomb survivor groups, NGOs, and other liaison groups "enclose nuclear-weapon states"

The Japan NGO Liaison Committee for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons, which is made up of atomic bomb survivor groups and NGOs, also held an online press conference on the 29th and issued a statement.

The statement condemned Russia's opposition to the final document at the NPT Review Conference and the attitude of the nuclear-weapon states, and stated that it was clear that the NPT alone would not bring about the abolition of nuclear weapons, and urged Russia to join and support the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. It also calls for the Japanese government to join the encirclement network, as it is necessary to broaden the siege of the nuclear-weapon states and countries that rely on nuclear deterrence.

At the press conference, Hiromi Tanaka, representative of Nihon Hidankyo, said, "Nuclear-weapon states have little interest in the abolition of nuclear weapons, and I think the fact that the United States and Russia in particular have not made any efforts is reflected in this result. Even so, we have the foundation of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, and as long as we live as hibakusha, we would like to create a path to the abolition of nuclear weapons."

In addition, Ms. Seiko Wada, an A-bomb survivor from Nagasaki who gave a speech at the review conference, said, "It is necessary to expand the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, which was created by citizens. For that reason, we have to strengthen our efforts even more,” he said.
