From September 1, 19 RER C will be canceled every day in Ile-de-France, a consequence of the lack of manpower at the SNCF, reveals

Ile-de-France has let it be known that it is considering claiming financial penalties.

The region is not the only one concerned.

47 regional express trains (TER) were canceled every day in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes until August 15.

Elsewhere, faced with train problems, communities have not paid their due to the SNCF, in whole or in part.

This is the case of the Hauts-de-France, Grand-Est and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions.

The SNCF wanted to be reassuring by specifying that these deletions will only affect, for example, 1% of the 500,000 daily passengers of the RER C. The problem is however global, with 1,200 driver positions which are in power at the national level.

Various and known reasons

The company mentioned in a document this Friday a lack of 10% of the workforce to provide rail links on French territory.

The direction of the SNCF nevertheless indicated “not to be able to provide a precise figure for the hour”.

The causes of the labor shortage are known.

Among them we find the lack of attractiveness of the positions, their low remuneration as well as the many constraints such as staggered hours and breakdowns related to equipment.

The resignations of employees are also on the rise, as are the abandonments of future railway workers in training.
