“We are dealing with a form of violence which is endemic, which is anchored, almost cultural in France in 2022.” Anne Bouillon, lawyer specializing in the defense of women victims of violence at the Nantes bar, did not mince words this Saturday at the microphone of France info.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior, the number of feminicides has increased by 20% in one year in France, with 122 women killed by their companion or ex-companion in 2021.

"Women are in danger first and foremost at home because it is within their homes that murders take place", analyzed the lawyer, adding that "men kill their wives because they feel authorized to do so legitimately”.

For her, the "culture of protection" has progressed in the last ten years, with protection orders that partially limit these numbers, when lawsuits were not taken and women were told "to just divorce ".

But she also painted a portrait of a France which still lags "considerably behind our Spanish neighbors", who have reduced feminicides by half "by releasing considerable resources".

For Anne Bouillon, "weapons should be systematically seized" and protection should be extended to children.

But above all, we must change the paradigm in our society and "ask ourselves why male domination continues".

The key may be in the next generation, provided we "work on the education of our children", advocated the lawyer, who said she was "optimistic".
