The Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Orléans (Loiret) recently added to its collection a sketchbook which came to them at the end of an astonishing, even miraculous journey.

The notebook covered with sketches by a local artist from the 19th century had indeed been spotted by a particularly attentive volunteer in May 2021, says

La République du Center

.

Raphaëlle Drouhin then took care of sorting old books donated by individuals to the Chapter 2 association, working to widen access to reading and writing.

By discovering the notebook of 21 cm by 12.5 cm, the one who is also a documentalist at the Museum of Fine Arts in Orléans immediately understood its value, explains

.

The notebook contains 32 drawings.

Its content has been described as “disparate” by Mehdi Korchane, head of the graphic arts department of the Orleans museums.

The specialist means by this that the sketches are made in watercolor, pencil or graphite and represent costumes, sites in the region or works of art.
