The eggs of loggerhead turtles that were protected by elementary school students in Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, have begun to hatch, and cute baby turtles are showing their faces one after another.

Former Elementary School in Muroto City has received permission from the prefectural government to protect the eggs of loggerhead sea turtles that come to lay eggs on the beach near the school to prevent them from being washed away by high waves.



Since late June, 123 loggerhead turtle eggs have been protected on the coast of Muroto City and brought back to an artificial hatchery at an elementary school.



The eggs I brought back started hatching on the night of the 21st of this month, and the baby turtles are starting to show their faces one after another from the sand.



39 baby turtles hatched by the 24th, and the school teachers are releasing them into the sea in order from the hatched ones.



Former elementary school principal Tai Teshima said, "Our school has been involved in conservation activities for more than 50 years, but last year they did not lay eggs, so I am happy to see a baby turtle for the first time in two years." I would like to learn the importance of life and the importance of life together with my children."



At the former elementary school, all 9 children in the school will return the newly born baby turtles to the sea in the new semester on the 1st of next month.
