At a stream in Miyazaki City, an experience of catching eels was held.

The experience of catching eels is held every year by the Miyazaki River and National Highway Office and an NPO that works to protect the environment of rivers, in order to get people familiar with the local rivers. .

Approximately 60 eels provided by the local fishermen's cooperative were released into the stream along the Oyodo River, and the children immediately took on the challenge of catching them.

The eels are about 50 to 60 centimeters long, and while the children struggled with their slimy bodies, they gradually learned the tricks and managed to catch them.

A boy in the fourth grade of elementary school said, "Even if I caught it, it ran away, but it was fun."

Satoshi Sugio, Representative Director of the NPO Oyodo River Basin Network, which hosted the event, said, "Through this event, the children were able to experience a familiar river that is used as local tap water and is directly connected to their lives. The river is important. I want you to develop a heart to do it."
