China News Agency reporter Zhao Lang

Since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in the Tibet Autonomous Region on August 7, schools in various places have entered the online class mode.

When a reporter from China News Agency spoke on the phone with 14-year-old Chilie Dorji, he and his younger brother were helping their mother graze on the summer pasture by the Namtso Lake.

He said: "Dad was driving in Namtso Scenic Spot. Because of the epidemic, he couldn't come back. When he didn't have online classes, he had to help his mother to fetch water and herd."

Chilie Dorji lives with his family in Dangxiong County, a pastoral area in northern Tibet. He and his younger brother are both in grade 6 in a primary school not far from the city of Lhasa.

From Monday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the brothers take online classes, and they will rest and eat in between.

He said: "The teacher talks very carefully and there is not much homework. Sometimes I help my brother with his homework."

Jiayuxiang Primary School is a frontier residential primary school in Longzi County, Shannan City, with 247 students including kindergarten students.

The new semester of primary schools has not yet started, and textbooks have not yet been distributed, and the epidemic has occurred. At present, students can obtain electronic textbooks through the APP of the national smart education platform for primary and secondary schools.

The head of the primary school, Lausanne Rob, said that the school originally started on August 13. Because of the epidemic, the school organized teachers and students to teach online through several platforms.

Many parents don’t know how to operate online platforms and ask volunteers in the village to help.

Due to being located in the border area, some students live in areas with poor network signals and cannot take online classes in real time. Teachers will send e-learning materials to students.

He said that the city and county are counting students' mobile phone numbers and opening data packages for students to ensure that students can take online classes normally.

According to Pu Zhen, curator of the Electronic Education Center of the Tibet Autonomous Region, there are more than 510,000 students in the agricultural and pastoral areas in Tibet, accounting for more than half of the total number of students in the region. In view of the relatively scattered people in these areas, the weak signal, and the inconvenience of real-time online classes, etc. The education sector has also taken corresponding measures.

As of August 20, online teaching in schools at all levels and types in Tibet has been progressing smoothly through various online platforms such as the Tibet Education Everest Qiyun platform.

"At present, Tibet Education's Qiyun platform of Mount Everest carries out online education, which can provide teachers and students with a variety of online teaching modes such as live broadcast, recording, playback, and on-demand, and introduce high-quality resources from the country, provinces and cities into the platform." She said that the platform At the same time, it also brings together many educational resources such as "one teacher, one excellent course, one teacher for one class" digital resources, professional teaching resources for vocational education, Chinese classics, Tibetan language teaching resources, and special education resources for epidemic prevention and control to meet the needs of teachers and students .
