[Commentary] Use a plastic flying wheel to explain the principle of flying saucer taking off, use a simple circuit board to introduce the working method of home appliances, and use the siphon phenomenon to demonstrate the water in the basin... Under the leadership of Captain Yang Angyue, a member of the veteran science team is explaining interesting scientific knowledge to dozens of children.

This veteran science team with an average age of more than 80 years old was established in 2007. At present, there are more than 30 members, all retired experts and professors of computer, electromechanical and other majors in the National Defense University of Science and Technology.

Since the establishment of the popular science team, the team members have developed more than 170 kinds of popular science entertainment projects in the fields of mechanics, physics, electronics and mathematics.

Yang Angyue has developed more than 100 new products suitable for college experimental courses, and obtained two national invention patents.

All of us have been engaged in teaching and scientific research work in the army for a lifetime. The idea (yes) is that after retiring, the veterans will not fade, and use our own strengths to serve the country's construction.

Popular science education has also been our top priority in recent years. We hold free popular science classes to let the seeds of science and technology take root in the hearts of children.

[Explanation] Yao Jinyu, 11 years old this year, is a student of the primary school affiliated to the National University of Defense Technology. He loved science since childhood. He not only saw the siphon experiment for the first time here, but also learned how to assemble the universal joint.

He said that he hopes to use scientific principles to create small inventions that make life more convenient in the future.

  (I) saw a lot of such scientific knowledge and techniques that I didn't know before, and then also enhanced my hands-on ability.

It is that we can solve some problems in our daily life through what we have learned today.

[Commentary] Yang Angyue told reporters that now, the popular science entertainment project of the veteran science team has made more than 6,000 children feel the charm of science and technology.

After many children learn the knowledge in the summer camp, they will practice and use it in their life.

Using a hair dryer to experiment with air flotation balls, researching AI intelligence, and digging out stamps that grandparents have collected for a long time... Yang Angyue and the others are very gratified every time they hear the after-school stories shared by children and parents.

In addition to the summer (winter) camps for science popularization, the veterans science popularization team has also overcome technical problems for some small and medium-sized enterprises; they have driven "popular science caravans" to rural and remote areas where education is relatively weak.

So far, they have traveled to mountain schools in Pingjiang, Liuyang and other places in Hunan many times to bring scientific knowledge to more than 3,000 local children.

The most unforgettable thing is the desire of the mountain children for technology.

Now in this rural area, especially in mountainous and remote areas, these left-behind children deserve care.

These children themselves are very smart children, so it makes sense to send them popular science.

I think there might be a child here who will become Deng Jiaxian and a scientist like Chen Jingrun in the future.
