This is the first time an elk population has been observed in the area in recent years.
According to reports, since the special rectification of Dongting Lake's ecological environment was launched in 2018, various departments at all levels have worked together to build a "smart law enforcement and supervision" platform, set up a comprehensive sealing and control area for wildlife habitats, and intensify patrol supervision. , to further restore the South Dongting Lake ecosystem.
At present, the natural ecological picture of "Dongting Leaping on Wetlands to Let Birds Fly" has become the norm in the South Dongting Lake, and the ecological environment has been significantly improved. More and more rare wild animals and birds have returned to the South Dongting Lake to inhabit and forage. In 2022 alone, more than 10,000 wild animals were found during patrolling the Ruogangzhou area, including more than ten species of national key protected wild animals such as elk, little swan, green-headed pochard, raccoon dog, and white spoonbill.
