His 'allure', his 'je ne sais quoi'.

The charm that is associated with

the Parisian and French style

goes a long way, also to write several manuals that stand as a source of eternal inspiration, even though the water is sometimes a little cloudy due to the excessive passage of the public through it: the search of the term (in English, of course), it yields more than 5,000 million results.

The strange thing is that the spring has not dried up.

But what the thirsty public perhaps does not know, because it is not something that the champions of the charming 'effortless' shout from the rooftops, is that

the fashion that Parisians wear actually comes from Spain

.

At least a good part of it.

ICEX Spain Export and Investment has shared that from January to May,

the fashion exports

that our country has made

have grown by 32.1%

, which gives a cumulative of

12,607 million euros

in foreign sales of fashion products, including shoes and other accessories.

Some figures that agree with the data collected by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism on Spanish exports in general: they increase by 24.8% in the first half of 2022. In fact,

the Secretary of State for Trade, Xiana Méndez

, maintains that

"Spanish foreign trade continues to show great dynamism

, higher than that of most of the countries around us.

The evolution of Spanish exports in the last month of June shows a very good performance that reaches all sectors."

The question is in the countries to which Spain exports fashion, since the first is, drum roll,

France

.

The country

increased its purchases from Spain by 26.2%

from January to May, followed by

Italy and Portugal

, although these last two countries bought more from our country compared to the previous period (the increase is 28.8% and 37 .9% respectively).

And although firms do not usually like (especially and despite being in the era of transparency) to reveal who their suppliers are, there are two quick examples that can illustrate how Spanish talent also supports part of the French 'charm'.

Also the one of the high spheres.

Surely the signature

AZ Factory

sounds familiar to you , the project of the late

Alber Elbaz

.

What may not sound so familiar to you is that

Pyratex

, a Spanish textile supplier specialized in natural fibers, has carried out projects with the French house, which they catalog as "a story of love, freedom and fun".

It crystallized into a series of

fleeces

that are woven "from a blend of organic cotton and seaweed in an innovative structure that is breathable, protective and warm."

A risky bet in terms of materials that, however, is increasingly in demand by brands around the world, as

Regina Polanco

, its

CEO , explained to Yo Dona.

and founder: "Many brands started with us with capsule collections to test the fabric, with few quantities, but

it is a product that has been well received and of which there is always stock now

because they have been repeated, they are maintained".

Another workshop in which it is easy to find a French trace is

Al Dedal in Madrid,

which has worked with a good handful of Spanish brands but has also made collections for the firm

Véronique Leroy.

And, of course, following the line of innovation, one cannot fail to mention the Basque

Comme des Machines

, more of a fashion laboratory than a typical textile supplier.

This sustainable manufacture specialized in

3D printing

has done different jobs that not only have to do with fashion, but one of the most outstanding is that of

Nina Ricci

, the brand whose designer was of Italian origin but became one of the flags of French fashion.

"

Digital fabrics

are designed and printed with the desired pattern and without generating waste during their manufacture," commented Comme des Machines when explaining their collaboration with Nina Ricci: they used these digital fabrics to make both bags and shoes.

But Spain also imports (a lot) fashion

These are just a few companies that make up more than the 2,000 that can be found in the list of companies that export fashion from Spain, but it is not the only side of the coin.

It is true that part of the French style has its origins here, and that we have an industry that is gaining muscle and prestige in an increasingly unavoidable way... Only that

we are also nourished by what comes from abroad

.

Call it globalization.

According to data provided by ICEX Spain Exports and Investments,

Spanish fashion imports also experienced enormous growth

in the first months of the year, especially in May, with an increase of

60.9%

.

What does this mean?

That in the accumulated of the year, Spain bought fashion abroad for a value of

13,474 million euros

.

Yes,

we buy more fashion than we export

.

And where?

To

China

.

It is the main supplier of the Spanish fashion industry, which during the first five months of the year increased its purchases from the Asian country by 56%.

Behind are

Bangladesh

, with an increase of 45.7%, and

Turkey

, with 29.6%.
