Kyushu University announced that a total of more than 50 wasps, designated as invasive alien species for their potential impact on ecosystems, have been confirmed in the town of Hisayama, Fukuoka Prefecture.

Assuming there is a nest, we will hurry to identify and exterminate it.

From late April to early May, one queen bee was found in each of Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City and Hisayama-cho, and one male was later confirmed in Hisayama-cho.

According to Kyushu University, in a survey conducted from the beginning to the middle of this month, more than 10 new female worker wasps of the hornet were captured in Hisayama-cho.

In addition, a total of more than 40 animals were confirmed visually at six locations in Hisayama-cho and the neighboring Sasaguri-cho.

The hornet is smaller than the native hornet and has a darker overall color.

In Japan, it has already been established in Tsushima City, Nagasaki Prefecture.

Although they are no different from native hornets in terms of their aggressiveness and toxicity, they are designated as 'specified alien species' whose breeding and transportation are prohibited in principle because they attack honeybees and affect the ecosystem and beekeeping industry. It has been.

Kyushu University believes that there are 2 or 3 nests nearby, and has decided to hurry to identify and remove the nests, saying, ``If this continues, it will definitely settle in the mainland of Kyushu.''
