The film industry has long requested so-called production discounts or production incentives, to facilitate filming in Sweden.

The industry has pointed out that many other European countries have already introduced similar discounts, which has caused domestic production to move abroad.

Last spring, the government announced that it planned to set aside SEK 100 million a year in production discounts in the form of cash support to the production companies.

The decision has now been made.

But that is only a third of what the film industry asked for.

- All in all, we have listened to the feedback and made sure that smaller productions also receive support.

We will follow this closely because this is very important for television and film production and something that is very important for Sweden, says Culture Minister Jeanette Gustafsdotter (S).

The decision comes into effect on September 20, but the Minister of Culture says that it is too early to say when you will be able to apply for the support, which is distributed by the Swedish Growth Agency.

- If you think about the big film productions that have been in the last ten years, they are often produced with film support in order to attract many other companies and tourists to come to new places.

This could become an important piece of the puzzle in our hospitality industry, says Minister of Economic Affairs Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson (S).
