American actress Anne Heche has died from smoke inhalation and burns.

That's according to a report from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, where the actress was hospitalized in early August following a serious car accident.

The actress also fractured her sternum, presumably from the impact of the steering wheel impact, and sustained "blunt trauma," the autopsy report said.

Heche, 53, who was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the accident, drove her car at high speed into a home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Both her vehicle and the car caught fire.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the extinguishing work took more than an hour, and 59 firefighters were on duty.

Heche was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where doctors pronounced brain death a few days later.

The actress died last Sunday after life support was turned off.
