In April, 14 passengers died in an accident in which the tourist boat "KAZU 1" (19 tons) sank off the coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula, and the whereabouts of 12 people are still unknown.



Following the discovery of a human skull on the west coast of the peninsula near the sinking site on the 14th of this month, the police began an intensive search on the surrounding coastline and sea from the 18th.

About 20 people, including police officers and brown bear hunters, gathered at Utoro Port in Shari Town before 8:00 am on the 18th and offered a moment of silence facing the accident site.



After that, they boarded a patrol boat and headed for Bunkichi Bay at the tip of the peninsula, which is the base for the search.



According to the police, the search on the 18th was carried out until 4:30 pm, and in addition to the new bone fragments, one adult and one child's sneakers and a hat were found.



The police will confirm whether there is any connection with the missing passengers by conducting DNA analysis of bones.



The intensive search will continue until the 20th.



On the other hand, when the 1st Regional Coast Guard Headquarters searched the coastline near the same "Bunkichi Bay" on the 18th, a total of 13 bone-like objects were found in the rocky area, and a black handbag was found in the nearby sea. one has been recovered.
