On the night of the 18th, a phenomenon called a fireball, which shines particularly brightly among shooting stars, was observed in a wide area such as the Kanto region.

After 7:20 pm on the 18th, there were a series of eyewitness reports on SNS that something like a fireball flowed down over a wide area, mainly in southern Kanto and Shizuoka prefectures.

At the same time, a camera installed by NHK in Narusawa Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, can also confirm that a ball of light shines strongly in the sky above Mt. Fuji and flows down.

According to Daichi Fujii, who specializes in astronomy and is a curator at the Hiratsuka City Museum in Kanagawa Prefecture, it is a phenomenon called a "fireball," which glows brightly when fragments of an asteroid floating in space enter the atmosphere and burn up.

A video shot by Mr. Fujii at his home in Hiratsuka City also shows a bright, glowing fireball trailing down for several seconds.

Fujii said, ``The fireball this time was characterized by the long afterimage that remains after it glows. I don't know, so those who saw it were very lucky," he said.
