The level of Lake Annecy (Haute-Savoie), particularly low, surprises observers and worries specialists.

The latter also closely monitor the height of the water in the midst of drought.

Indeed, it feeds several rivers located upstream and is home to a rich fauna and flora.

It also provides portable water to 150,000 inhabitants of the sector, explains France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

No animal or plant species is currently threatened, however assured the experts.

The latter nevertheless expect a drop in the flow of the watercourses dependent on the lake.

It has been drying up since the beginning of the summer season.

Not the driest area

The level has thus decreased by 33 cm since the beginning of July, and even by 38 cm since the beginning of June.

Muriel Cassorla, deputy director of urban cleanliness at the town hall of Annecy, estimated the drop at one centimeter per day on average over the period.

The lake is not one of the five areas of the department classified as drought "crisis".
