China News Service, Guangzhou, August 16th (Chengjingwei Linyin) According to the Guangdong Provincial Forestry Bureau on the 16th, when the Changtan Provincial Nature Reserve in Jiaoling, Guangdong recently sorted out the monitoring data of the infrared camera, it was found that two national first-class protected animals were photographed. Video of the nocturnal activity of the wild Chinese pangolin.

It is reported that this is the first time a Chinese pangolin has been found in the reserve.

It can be seen from the video that under the night, an adult pangolin is snuggling up with a cub.

After bringing the cubs back to the burrow under the forest, the adult pangolins returned to the outside of the burrow and brought back some dead grass to cover the entrance of the burrow.

From this, it can be judged that Chinese pangolins have grown and bred normally in this reserve.

The Chinese pangolin is a national first-class protected wild animal. It belongs to the genus Pangolinidae, the order Dace, and is the only mammal with long scales and no teeth in existence.

Its vision is basically degraded, and its sense of smell is particularly sensitive. It mainly feeds on termites and ants. It likes heat and is nocturnal. When it is in danger, its body will curl up into a ball to defend itself.

It is understood that in 2021, Guangdong Jiaoling Changtan Provincial Nature Reserve will implement the "infrared camera monitoring" project, and 39 infrared cameras will be deployed in the area to monitor the communities and populations of terrestrial mammals and ground-dwelling birds in the reserve. Dynamic monitoring has been carried out. At present, a total of 40 kinds of wild animals have been monitored, including leopard cats, white-browed mountain partridges, white pheasants, brown-winged cuckoos, thrushes, red-billed acacias and other rare and endangered key protected species.

The person in charge of the Changtan Provincial Nature Reserve in Jiaoling, Guangdong said that in recent years, the reserve has continuously innovated the management and protection mechanism, the ecological environment has been significantly improved, and the population of wild animals and plants has continued to expand.

According to the Guangdong Forestry Bureau, for a long time, Guangdong has continued to increase the protection and rescue of pangolins through scientific research, field monitoring, establishment of protected areas, and crackdown on illegal activities of wild animals, and achieved gratifying results.

Up to now, Guangdong has discovered fresh pangolin caves in Shaoguan, Heyuan, Dongguan, Chaozhou, Huizhou, Meizhou, Zhaoqing, Yangjiang, Maoming and other places, and photographed pangolins in action.

The Guangdong Forestry Bureau will continue to implement a number of key species protection projects such as pangolins, and organize the investigation, monitoring and evaluation of Chinese pangolins and their habitats, accurate habitat identification and management, wild population monitoring and ecological function evaluation, rescue, and artificial breeding. , Ex situ conservation of population expansion and wild release, as well as the construction of key laboratories and other protection and scientific research work, optimize resource allocation, establish a number of field scientific research monitoring, rescue breeding, popular science education bases or stations, and promote the protection and restoration of pangolin resources , to provide population, technology and infrastructure guarantees for breakthroughs in the key technologies of artificial breeding of pangolins and the rejuvenation of wild populations.
