US rapper ASAP Rocky has been charged with shooting a friend.

Singer Rihanna's boyfriend has two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, according to prosecutors in the California metropolis of Los Angeles on Monday.

The 33-year-old singer of the hit song "Praise the Lord (Da Shine)" is due to appear in court on Wednesday.

The incident happened in Hollywood last November.

ASAP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers and spells his stage name A$AP Rocky, is said to have pointed a semi-automatic weapon at his opponent during a dispute with a former friend, according to prosecutors.

In a later confrontation, the rapper then fired two shots in the direction of the acquaintance.

According to police, the victim suffered minor injuries in the incident.

ASAP Rocky has been arrested in connection with the April shooting at the Los Angeles airport.

It's not the first time the rapper has gotten into trouble with the law.

The New York-born musician was arrested in 2019 in the Swedish capital Stockholm after a street fight.

He was released after more than a month in custody and was later given a suspended sentence for assault.

Privately, ASAP Rocky recently made more positive headlines: He and Rihanna became parents in May.
