In 1993, citizen volunteers built a memorial monument "Shoten Monument" to convey that the kamikaze corps sortied from this area in the future, and a memorial service is held every year.



This year, due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the memorial service was canceled, and 30 people, including citizens who attended, offered flowers and incense sticks.



At noon, they observed a moment of silence, renewing their thoughts of peace.



A 71-year-old woman who has been attending the memorial service for the past three years said, "When I heard that there was a special attack sortie from Choshi, my heart ached. Seeing the photographs of young people makes me feel indescribable. Humanity. I would like to live with love," he said.



Noboru Tsukamoto, the executive committee chairman of the memorial service, said, ``I want many people to participate in order not to forget the history of the kamikaze corps flying from this place.''
