China News Service, Tianjin, August 14 (Liu Juncang) On the 14th, the reporter learned from Mr. Zhang Xiwu's family that Mr. Zhang Xiwu, a famous painter and "Peony Zhang", died in Tianjin at 23:00 on August 13, 2022, at the age of 96.

  Zhang Xiwu, courtesy name Qingsong, was born in 1927 in Hejian County, Hebei Province.

He has served as the editor of Tianjin Art Studio and Tianjin Art Publishing House, the vice president and chief editor of Tianjin Yangliuqing Painting Society.

Member of China Artists Association, director of Tianjin Artists Association, vice chairman of Tianjin Senior Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, and deputy director of Tianjin Chinese Painting Research.

He is good at Chinese flower and bird paintings and Yangliuqing folk New Year paintings.

His works include "Fisher's Song on Dian Shang", "Mulan Joins the Army", "Li Shizhen Asking for Medicine" and other works were selected for the National Art Exhibition.

His publications include Selected Paintings of Zhang Xiwu, Freehand Painting of Peony, and Painting of Peony.

  Zhang Xiwu was influenced by his father who was good at painting peony since childhood, and studied Danqing.

At the age of 18, he participated in the revolution and made illustrations for anti-Japanese propaganda works.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as editor and leader of the publishing house, creating a large number of New Year pictures, comic strips, and Chinese paintings, especially peony.

The peony in his writings is graceful and luxurious, plump and full, and has its own style, and is known as "Peony Zhang".

When he was nearly ninety years old, he still continued to write, reformed and sought new ideas, refused to be impetuous, and valued his character, and could be regarded as a model for future generations.

Zhang Fuyou, Secretary General of Tianjin Artists Association, said that Mr. Zhang Xiwu is a highly respected artist in Tianjin art circles, and he has devoted his life to Tianjin art career.

He has been engaged in art editing and management throughout his life. After retirement, he concentrated on art creation and formed his own unique style.

The death of Mr. Zhang Xiwu is a great loss to the Tianjin art circle.
