On the morning of August 14, local time, a fire broke out in a church in Cairo, Egypt, during a ceremony, killing at least 41 people and injuring 14 others.

A spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Health said 30 ambulances were dispatched to the scene and all the injured had been transferred to hospitals for treatment.

All hospitals in Cairo and Giza governorates are currently under a state of emergency.

After receiving the alarm, the local civil defense force rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but police said preliminary investigations indicated it may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

Egyptian prosecutors have ordered a report on the cause of the fire.
