On the 15th, the day the war ended, an 82-year-old man from Yomitan Village, Okinawa Prefecture, who survived the Battle of Okinawa, gave donations collected so far to the Japanese Red Cross Society to support Ukraine, where Russia's military invasion continues. .

The donation was made by Noboru Kiyuna (82) from Yomitan Village.



Kiyuna survived the Battle of Okinawa 77 years ago, but his one-year-old sister died in a POW camp from malnutrition.



Mr. Kiyuna compared the appearance of people sheltering in underground shelters in Ukraine with himself, who was evacuating with his family in a shelter during the Battle of Okinawa, and asked his wife, Yoshiko, to help support Ukraine. 78), we have been collecting donations on the streets since late March this year.



The activities on the streets ended at the end of June, but even after that, people continue to come to deliver donations to their homes.

Kiyuna said, "Thinking about the Battle of Okinawa, people who experienced the war sometimes donated money, saying that they didn't have to eat one or two meals.
