Wakayama Prefecture announced on the 13th that 1,362 new people were confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus.
It was 40 more than the same day of the week last week and the highest number of confirmed cases ever reported on Saturday.
A total of 86,724 people were confirmed to be infected in the prefecture.
The number of serious cases increased by one from the 12th to five.
