A national natural treasure "Yanbaru rail", which had been injured in a traffic accident in Kunigami Village, Okinawa Prefecture and was protected, received treatment and recovered and was returned to the Yanbaru Forest on the 11th.

This "Yanbaru Kuina" is a female adult bird, and locals found it lying down on a prefectural road in Kunigami Village, Okinawa Prefecture on the 3rd of this month.



As a result of an examination at the NPO "Animal Hospital Okinawa" in Uruma City, it was injured such as bleeding from the feathers of the tail and could not stand up.

After receiving treatment and recovering, he was returned to a forest near a protected area on the 11th under the watchful eye of officials from the Ministry of the Environment and NPOs.



According to the Ministry of the Environment, 20 "Yanbaru rail" that may have been involved in traffic accidents have been confirmed by the 11th, and 4 were rescued, but 16 died.



Noriaki Yoshikawa, a conservation officer at the Ministry of the Environment's Yanbaru Conservation Office, said, "When traveling on the road, I want you to follow the speed limit so that the rare animals of Yanbaru are not run over."
