612 kg of cannabis pollen were seized at the La Turbie tollbooth, 30 km from Nice, on July 27.

During this check, the customs officers of the Menton brigade discovered that the drugs were hidden in bulk bales of wool.

According to the truck's transport documents, the 129 bales of wool were destined for a spinning mill in Italy.

Already known for similar facts in 2014, the Spanish driver was placed in pre-trial detention as part of the opening of a judicial investigation for drug trafficking.

A value of more than six million euros

Cannabis pollen, a finer material than resin or herbal cannabis, also has a higher level of THC (the active substance in cannabis).

The value of this load represents nearly more than 6.12 million euros on the illicit narcotics market, according to the customs service.

According to the regional customs department, 1.2 tonnes of narcotics were seized in 2021 by customs officers in the Alpes-Maritimes.

With this entry, the 2022 balance sheet has already reached that of last year.

Nationally, French customs seized more than 115 tonnes of narcotics in 2021, which represents 75% of seizures in France.
