A 26-year-old suspect in Osaka was arrested on suspicion of attempted fraud for trying to defraud a woman in her 80s out of cash under the guise of a volunteer group supporting Ukraine.

The woman was defrauded of about 60 million yen in cash using the same trick, and the police are investigating that the suspect may have been involved.

Daito Ariyoshi (26), an unemployed man from Osaka, was arrested.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Ariyoshi pretended to be a volunteer group with his friends and asked a woman in her 80s living in Minato Ward, Tokyo, to donate to Ukraine, and then "leaked the group's information to the outside." It is suspected of attempted fraud as trying to defraud cash in the name of security deposit.

The suspect is believed to be the recipient of the cash, and after admitting the charges, he said, ``I applied because I wanted to make money while taking it easy because there was a post on social media that I had a black market job and a high income. I visited 4 or 5 times and received cash," he said.

From June to August, the woman was defrauded of about 60 million yen in cash using the same method, and police are investigating the details, assuming that the suspect may have been involved.
