THE ESSENTIAL

  • Eight major fires ravaged French forests, in Gironde, Maine-et-Loire, Jura, Drôme and Aveyron.

  • Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin are expected in Gironde, in order to show the "total" involvement of the government despite the holidays.

  • The heat wave that has affected France since July 31 is the “most lasting nationally” episode, according to Météo-France, even if it is less intense than the previous ones.

It will be between 36 and 40 degrees in the southern half, and 35 degrees are still expected Friday in Paris.

9:11 a.m .: The two main fires in Maine-et-Loire fixed, more than 1,500 hectares burned

The two main fires in Maine-et-Loire, which have ravaged more than 1,500 hectares mainly in the forests since Monday, were now fixed, we learned Thursday morning from the department's firefighters.

The fire located around Baugé-sur-Anjou, which ravaged the Pugle forest, “has been fixed since 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with 1,400 hectares burned.

We are still defending sensitive points on 22 sites because they are located in the burned areas.

We have many covers, some of which are not natural, ”regrets the Codis.

"We are very, very vigilant: on the threatened surface, we are at 200 hectares and this afternoon we have not good weather conditions with heat, wind and very low humidity (11%)", added the code.

In Beaulieu-sur-Layon, south of Angers in the Layon wine region, the fire is also fixed and 150 hectares have been burned.

“The fire requires vigilance since, there too, we have unnatural occasions”, according to Codis.
