A press conference was held in Naha City on the 9th by those involved in compiling the wills of the students of the former prefectural first junior high school who were mobilized for the Battle of Okinawa and many of them were sacrificed.

Among the students of the former prefectural first junior high school, 307 people, including teachers, were mobilized by the military in the Battle of Okinawa, and among them, they were assigned to a unit called "Iron Blood Kinnotai". The students wrote a "will" according to the school's instructions.

The alumni association of the current Prefectural Shuri High School and its predecessor, the former Prefectural First Junior High School, restored the will and compiled it into a booklet, and held a press conference at the Yoshu Alumni Hall near the high school on the 9th.

In addition to the handwritten wills of the students who were still in their teens, such as words that they were prepared to die in the war, the booklet also includes the student's face photo and profile, allowing you to understand the sentiments of the time. .

At the alumni association, there are only a few people left who know about the war due to the aging population.

Takeshi Yogi, the chairman of the alumni association, said, "Through the booklet, especially young people of the same age, in addition to peace and war, it may be an opportunity to think about the future of Okinawa from their respective standpoints."

The booklet will be distributed to prefectural and municipal libraries as well as high schools in the prefecture.
