Data from the "Maoyan Professional Edition" shows that as of 19:00 on August 8, the box office since June 1 has reached 6.895 billion yuan, and the box office in the summer of 2022 is expected to achieve year-on-year growth; "Lone on the Moon" has surpassed "Life Events" , ranked first in the box-office charts.

There are obvious signs of a recovery in the summer film market this year.

Warm and realistic films "Life Events", sci-fi films "Lone on the Moon", "Mozart in Outer Space", "Tomorrow's War", romance films "A Long Confession", "Meet You", "We Look Like Love", cartoons "Farewell to Monsters"... This summer, more than 10 films with multiple themes and genres have been released one after another.

Industry insiders said that this summer’s box office is likely to exceed the total box office of 7.381 billion yuan in the same period last year, and the backlog of viewing demand has been released again this summer, including parent-child, sci-fi, suspense, comedy, love and other types of movies. High-quality films have also become an important guarantee for the improvement of the summer film market.

Rao Shuguang, president of the China Film Critics Association, believes that the film "A Big Event in Life" has become a "popular" and has set a new specimen for domestic films, which may once again prove that warm realism is an important direction for the success of small and medium-sized films; "Walking on the Moon" Following "The Wandering Earth", it once again contributed to the industrialization and sustainable development of Chinese science fiction films, adding a "fire" to the summer film market.

"The film market needs films that are humanistic and can resonate with the audience like 'A Great Event of Life', and also need films like 'Lonely Walking on the Moon' that are sci-fi and comedy and satisfy the audience's imagination." Rao Shuguang said.

In order to speed up the recovery of the film industry, since the beginning of this year, the State Film Administration has successively launched a series of support and relief policies and measures.

Zhejiang, Hainan, Shandong, Beijing and other places have also introduced relief policies to help enterprises such as rent reduction and exemption and the issuance of consumer coupons. Shanghai, Hubei and other places have boosted industry confidence by directly subsidizing movie theaters.

Experts pointed out that the summer film market has picked up this year, and the results are obvious to all. It is expected to achieve year-on-year growth, but there is still a gap between it and before the outbreak of the epidemic. Therefore, the key is to persist in making progress while maintaining stability, and further restore the confidence and prosperity of the industry.

Yin Hong, vice chairman of the China Film Association, pointed out that in order to overcome the impact of the epidemic, Chinese films must better play the leading role of the main theme blockbusters, pay attention to the production and distribution layout of films of different types, themes and styles, and ensure the richness of supply. Start a series of activities to bring audiences back to the cinema, and re-cultivate the audience's viewing needs.
