In Saxon Switzerland, the situation eased slightly around two weeks after the forest fire broke out.

Nevertheless, around 800 firefighters are still active there on Tuesday and probably also in the coming days - and the entry ban for the area of operation in the rear Saxon Switzerland still applies.

“There is an improvement in the situation.

On the night of Tuesday, no open flames were discovered for the first time in a long time," said Thomas Kunz from the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district office on Tuesday on request.

Even during the evening reconnaissance flight of a state police helicopter with a thermal imaging camera, fewer embers were localized late Monday.

According to the district office, the firefighters come from all districts of Saxony and from Lower Saxony and Bavaria.

They are still in action on an area of around 150 hectares.

This corresponds to the size of around 210 soccer fields.

They are supported by twelve firefighting helicopters and three reconnaissance helicopters.

"It is not yet foreseeable when the number of emergency services can be reduced," said Kunz.

The focus is still on fighting the embers in regions that are sometimes difficult to access.

In addition, the soil is dug up in hard physical work in order to then irrigate it.

The emergency services will not receive support from favorable weather conditions this week.

According to the forecast of the German weather service, no rain is expected for the coming days and the temperatures will reach daily highs of at least 30 degrees.
