Saving a man who underwent plastic surgery

Brazilian health authorities rescued a man who had undergone rhinoplasty himself, affected by promotional films, prompting YouTube to remove an educational video about rhinoplasty after the news spread.

The "Insider" website, quoting the Municipal Health Department, stated that the man, whose name has not been revealed, was brought to the emergency unit after it was found that he had tried to perform a nose job on his own and without medical advice, and a medical team specialized in mental health examined him on the site before referring him to Oral and Maxillofacial Team.

“The team cleaned and bandaged the wound and provided instructions on the necessary care,” the health ministry said in an email. The man was referred to an oral and maxillofacial team and a psychiatric service for long-term care.

And the "Insider" website quoted a Brazilian media outlet that the patient watched lessons on "YouTube" on how to perform rhinoplasty at home, and imitated the procedure that only trained medical professionals should perform.

The Municipal Health Department said it had no information about the video in question, and YouTube did not respond to Insider's request for comment.

The sources stated that an educational video about this surgical procedure was removed shortly after the man was admitted to the hospital, and also stated that the popular platform has since imposed age restrictions on videos that show viewers how to perform procedures of this type.

According to doctors, performing rhinoplasty on your own can lead to serious complications, such as necrosis, infections, nasal obstruction and septic shock.
